It is your unique combination of skills and experiences that make you who you are, and what others will recognize you for, so effective personal branding should differentiate you from other professionals in your field. All careers are individual and should be tailored to your abilities and motivation.

There was a woman I once knew who loved arranging and hosting kids’ birthday parties but wasn’t quite sure how she would be able to make a living from it. Fast forward today, she’s learned to believe in herself – now she’s a professional event planner for kids’ birthday parties and steps in whenever busy parents want to give their kids an unforgettable birthday. She earns more than the average person and she’s happier than ever because she’s doing what she loves and is good at.

You don’t think you’ve “peaked” in your life yet, do you? There are many different reasons why people don’t land on the right path until “later in life.” It is perfectly normal and may even be to your advantage to peak late in life, then if it happens earlier on. Typically, when you are young, you usually have more expectations and fewer experiences. Also, as you grow older, you gain more experience and have fewer expectations.

The optimal balance in life is to keep your expectations in check while developing your experiences. Once you stop looking ahead and focus on the present, that’s when life starts to begin. People over 25 and older accounted for roughly 40 percent of all college and graduate students. Take Louisiana, for example. Students older than 25 make up 28 percent of the University of Louisiana system’s 90,000-plus students. Stay hungry for learning, no matter your age.
